HAICoPAS aerospace structure demonstrator, produced by Arkema and Hexcel, features intermediate modulus carbon fibre reinforced polyetherketoneketone (PEKK) thermoplastic composite. It was designed and manufactured using HexPly thermoplastic tapes fabricated with Arkema’s Kepstan PEKK resin and Hexcel HexTow AS7 and IM7 carbon fibres. The various parts are assembled using a range of innovative thermoplastic welding techniques with the goal of becoming cost competitive and with metal.
