Kirinite is a cast polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), acrylic, which comes in a wide range of swirling colours and effects. Here it has been machined as a trumpet mouthpiece. It is also commonly used for knife handles and pen bodies.

Frederick Phelps violins in solid maple. The figured grain (flame) contributes to the superior acoustic properties of the violin, because it is interrupted and so does not resonate like straight grain.

While silver is the most common finish for a brass instrument mouthpiece, gold provides a tarnish-free surface that will hold its shine for longer. Maintaining a super smooth finish means the mouthpiece feels less 'grippy' and so can help with lip flexibility and control.
