Beech is a popular wood, and reasonably priced, for many interior and household applications due to it’s ease of working and uniform appearance. It is available from certified and well-managed forests. As a thermally modified timber (TMT) is can be used outdoors, such as for furniture and cladding.

Sustainability concerns
Non-renewable ingredients
Raw material generates polluting by-products
Low circularity potential

Beech plywood, also known as multiplex, is a heavy and hardwearing material. It is used in worktops and benches, kitchen counters (countertops), table tops, toys, storage and general furniture building. Its high density – an 18 mm sheet, 1.2 x 2.4 m, weighs 36 kg, compared to just over 20 kg for poplar of the same size – means that it will cost more for the same area.
